from will each have a different personality. Choosing the right one for your home and family situation can be difficult, especially if you have a lot of choices. However, it is important that you find a dog that will be the perfect fit for your family. This will reduce the chances of having to return the dog for compatibility issues.

In many cases, you will get to interact with the dogs before you have to choose one. It is important to bring every member of your household along to pick out the dog. This way, you will be able to see how the dog reacts to each person and vice versa. If a dog reacts poorly to one member of your family, it is best to choose a different dog. If you like the dog in every other way, it can be tempting to assume that everyone will get along eventually, but that is often not the case.

Check over any Labrador dogs you are considering. If the dogs are older and have been given up by previous owners, ask about their health records and other issues. In some cases, the previous owner may have given up the dog for their own health reasons or moving, but in others, the dog may have had problems. Know what you are getting yourself into before picking a dog. You want a dog that is reasonably healthy so you can be sure of having many years together.

Watch the dogs play together for a while. The energy level and personality of each dog will shine through in this situation. This will allow you to identify any dogs that have undesirable traits and an energy level you are comfortable with handling. If a dog seems to have a wild streak and you work full time, for instance, it probably isn’t the right dog for you.

Being able to choose between the available Labrador dogs will ensure that you find one that is the best fit for your situation. Everyone in your household needs to meet the dog to make sure everyone is compatible. It is also important to ask about any health issues or other concerns about the dog, especially if it is an older dog. Paying attention to the behavior of the dog can also help you make the best decision.

Choosing the Right Labrador Retriever Name

came with a name or didn’t have one at all, you may want to choose a name that fits the dog itself. There is no right or wrong way to name a dog, but some people work hard to find the best fit.

The appearance of your dog can help you find the perfect name. Labrador dogs come in three different colors: black, yellow and chocolate. The color of your dog can give you inspiration for the right name, such as “Cocoa” for a chocolate lab. If your dog has any distinctive markings, you can use that to name your dog as well. For instance, if the dog has a puff of white fur on the end of its tail or on the forehead, “Star” may be a good name.

When you first bring your Labrador retriever home, watch the way it acts. Some dogs will give you a clue to the right name in their behavior. If you have a dog that runs all over the place, you might want to consider the name “Dasher.” Or if your dog’s favorite game is playing fetch, you could name it “Fetch.” Just about anything works for a dog name; however, you need to avoid using names that sound similar to commands you will use.

Pay attention to the names of other dogs that frequent the area near your home. It is best to avoid giving your dog a name that is the same as other dogs that live near you or a similar name to a family member. Any name that can be confused with someone else or another dog isn’t a good idea. You want to choose something that will indicate you are talking to your dog.

While you may want to name your Labrador retriever as soon as you bring it home, the name can wait a few days if you need it. Paying attention to your dog’s appearance and its behavior can help you come up with the perfect name. As you consider all of your name options, make sure you avoid choosing one that too closely matches a family member or another dog that lives nearby.

temperament of an individual dog, knowing the overall temperament of a breed can help you make the right decision for your family.

Labrador dogs are very friendly, particularly with their owners. Though some breeds are a little more affectionate, the Labradors are likely to make friends with just about anyone. This makes them a good breed choice if you are around strangers often or you have a household full of people. They can be put in many different situations without reacting poorly to the situation. Their even temperament helps them to adjust well.

Because a Labrador retriever does have an even temperament and is unaffected by what goes on around them, they are a good family dog. Labradors are the kind of dog that will let your young child climb all over them or pull on their ears or tail. While it is never a good idea to leave a child alone with a dog or to allow a child to abuse a dog, it is always nice to have a dog that doesn’t snarl, nip or bite when a child does do something that would typically bother a dog.

Activity is another part of the temperament of Labrador dogs. They love to run around outdoors and play with toys. Therefore, if you are looking for a dog that will be playful and have fun playing outdoors with you, a Labrador may be the right dog for you and your family. However, this means it is best to have a yard in which the dog can run and play. If you want to give your dog free reign of the yard, it is best to fence your yard in rather than put your dog on a leash outside. Labradors don’t mind either way, but they burn more energy running freely.

When you choose the type of dog you want, one thing you need to consider is the dog’s temperament. A Labrador retriever is a friendly, active dog that does well with people of all ages. These dogs need space to run and attention from their owners, but can do well in many situations. Therefore, if you find yourself with people in and out of your home or going out places with your dog, the Labrador will feel comfortable in all of these situations.

always in existence until certain breeds were crossbred to create them. With the Labrador retriever, their origins lie in Newfoundland, Canada. The primary breed that later became the Labrador is known as the St. John’s dog. These dogs trace back to England, where they came to North America in the late 1800s. The breed itself, though, is first referenced in the early 1800s.

In their early history, Labrador retrievers worked with the fishermen to retrieve both fishing lines and lost fish. They were also used in hunting to help retrieve the prey shot by the hunters. This established the breed as a working class breed. In addition to their skills in helping fishermen and hunters retrieve things, the breed also became known as a good family dog to have around children, thus establishing the breed to be the popular family dog it is today.

The colors of the Labrador dogs also has its place in history. In the early years, all Labradors were black, with many of them carrying white markings on their chests and other areas. Occasionally, a Labrador mother would give birth to puppies in other colors, but black was the predominant color. By the late 1800s, yellow labs were more common in their various shades. It wasn’t until the 1930s when chocolate labs became more common. Today, show-quality labs must be one uniform color. The only allowable exception is a small white spot on the chest, caused by the old white markings on the original breed.

Today, Labrador retrievers are among the most popular family dog. They are still sometimes used in working situations, but are most often found within homes, especially with young children. These dogs are often gentle and love to play, especially when it involves retrieving things, such as playing fetch. Some working situations where Labradors are still common include service dogs, hunting, tracking and therapy.

While Labrador dogs don’t have a long history, they have come a long way from their origins. The colors of the Labrador retrievers have changed over the years as the breed became established, adding two additional colors to the original black. The breed has also made the shift from primarily working with hunters and fishermen to retrieve items to being one of the most common types of family dog. Their temperament and abilities make them the perfect dog, even if you have young children.

more than just the three most well-known colors for this breed of dogs. Besides the common yellow, black and chocolate Labradors, you can find variations of colors and even brindle patterns on the dogs. If you aren’t using your dog for show purposes, his color won’t make a difference except in your own personal preferences.

Because yellow, black and chocolate are the most commonly known colors for Labrador retrievers, the color is often attached to the name of the dog. However, when you find one that is of a different color, it isn’t any less a Labrador retriever than the others are. Even when these dogs come in varying colors, their main color is still often one of the three recognized by the AKC. For any purpose other than showing, these additional colors have no bearing on the dog whatsoever.

Even though the AKC accepts only three colors, there are variations among some of those colors. For the black Labrador retriever dogs, black is black. Chocolate labs can come in a small range of browns. The yellow Labrador retriever, however, comes in a wide range of colors, from a light tan to a reddish coat color. As long as the dog is one uniform color, it is of show quality. One small white spot on the chest can still qualify the dog as a show dog.

Any time a Labrador retriever has a color other than its main color on its body, it no longer qualifies as a show dog. If you don’t want to show your dog, though, these color markings can provide a unique look to your dog to help you identify your own dog. White and tan markings are among the most common to create a brindled effect to your Labrador retriever. These markings can give your dog character, in addition to his personality.

The colors of Labrador retriever dogs can vary widely, though the AKC recognizes only three of the colors. However, if you aren’t intending to use your dog as a show dog, the colors don’t matter as much. The black, yellow and chocolate Labradors are often one solid color, though the shades of those colors can vary. When you add additional markings in other colors, the dog qualifies as brindled and is no longer of show quality.

America’s number one dog the Labrador retriever is a popular dog because of many reasons. The dog’s likable face makes it very endearing to the many that have made it part of their family. The Labrador is a very people oriented dog. For very good reasons millions of Americans own this dog that is very loyal and loving to their families. But the Labrador retriever is not only popular in America. Europeans love the dog too because of the above reasons and because of its good company.

Labradors are available in three main colors namely the golden yellow Labrador, the black Labrador and the chocolate Labrador. While you might find a variety of shades in these three colors for Labradors, all Labradors are basically classified into one of the three major colors. Labradors are very good swimmers. Because of their webbed toes and the wide tail, they can swim very well. Their webbed feet enable them to paddle more like a person wearing flippers.

Labradors are also very good at hunting because of two reasons. First, the dogs are easy to train and are willing to do whatever it takes to look after and make its owner happy. Another reason why the Labrador is a great hunter is that it has an amazing sense of smell. They also love the water and are wonderful retrievers, which is how the breed received their name.

Generally, Labradors have a life span of about twelve to fourteen years although there is a bit of a difference with specific Labrador breeds or classifications. The life expectancy of larger Labradors is however less than that of the smaller Labrador dogs. Labradors have health complications such as inherited cancer, heart diseases, bloat, epilepsy and many other problems. They either inherit health complications from their parents, or are affected by their environment.

Labradors have a healthy appetite and this might result in weight management complications, especially if they lack sufficient exercise. Their weight has to be watched and they must eat a proper diet as well as get enough exercise if they are to remain in good physical condition. The advantage with these dogs is that they are very athletic and quite playful. If you aren’t active, your Labrador may tire you out. You will definitely enjoy having a Labrador not just as a pet but also as a companion and play mate, especially if you enjoy outdoor activities.

It is quite easy to take care of a Labrador dog when you make this a standard practice rather than a one-time occurrence. If you want to keep your Labrador in high spirits and in good condition, there are a few elementary tips that you can observe to tend to the dog. Labradors actually are able to care for their coat although they need to be brushed at least once a week. This get’s rid of any filth and falling hair when its time to shed.

Bathe your Labrador once every three months during spring, the summer, and the fall. Their nails must be cut short after three months; this can be done by a vet, a groomer or even by you if you have mastered the skill. It is important to examine the dog’s ears every two weeks to determine if they are in good condition because Labradors are susceptible to ear infections due to insufficient circulation in the ears. Keep his teeth clean and offer your dog dentabones to prevent tooth decay. They are need regular vet checkups, at least once a year. Yearly checkups will make sure your dog is healthy and up to date on her vaccinations.

Make sure your Labrador gets plenty of exercise to keep him from becoming overweight, which may lead to other health issue. They also must have healthy diet and an established food plan. Do not give the Labrador food human food because this can affect his health. You should talk to your vet regarding the best type of food for your Labrador, and how much to feed them every day.

The dog’s drinking water must be clean to prevent germs that might cause the dog illness and must be changed often. Water is essential so for your dog to remain hydrated. Labradors are quite playful and are capable of causing damage to objects as well as themselves. To keep him out of potential harm, ensure that anything that is potentially dangerous is kept where the dog cannot reach it.

As the name defines them, Labrador retriever dogs are trained to retrieve. The Labrador retriever is a type of gundog that is quick to learn commands. Naturally, this type of dog is keen to please, eagerly seeking your approval and attention. That is why Labrador or in short Lab, will follow you everywhere you go. They are also always willing to do different kind of tricks to entertain you. Their favourite is to play the retrieving game. They can play for hours without getting bored until you give in from exhaustion.

Labs are highly intelligent dogs. That is why they are the most popular dog in Canada (their origin), United States, and Australia. They are quick to learn new tricks and can follow instructions easily. Labs are lovely and get along well with everyone, even strangers and cats. Probably the only thing you cannot rely on Lab is to ask it to be a good watch dog. They are not aggressive and make very little noise. However, they can be a very good companion and are good in assisting. Their stable temperament makes them an ideal breed for rescue and therapy work. Labs are also suitable for families with children as they are good with kids.

Labs are active and need plenty of exercise. Other than that they enjoy playing in the water. Their nature makes them an ideal companion for hunters and fishermen. Labs do not mind if they are wet and they love to carry anything in their mouths. Do not be shocked if he brings back a dead fish out of the water. Always be careful not to let them swallow anything they are not supposed to eat. If they are lack of exercise or are bored, they might start chewing everything they can find.

Labrador retrievers have double coats, which are short, thick and water-resistant. They have strong necks and solid bodies. Their muzzles are wide and they have thick noses. They have a broad head with hanging ears. And their webbed feet make them good swimmers. Usually, they are black, chocolate or yellow, with a life span of around 10 to 13 years.

Labrador retriever dogs only require occasional grooming, as their coats are short. Overall, they are easy to take care of. Ear infections are however, a potential risk for dogs with hanging ears. If Labs are fed well without adequate exercise, they might suffer obesity problems. They are also susceptible to hip dysplasia and other joint problems. As they get older, they are prone to a progressive retinal atrophy, which causes blindness.

When your neighbor knocks on your door at 9 PM at night, a lot of things go through your mind. I answered the door with my two labs in tow, barking, and carrying on. While they are fairly obedient, they have been known to forget themselves for a minute or two, especially the seven month old puppy. Of course, you can definitely expect some of this behavior, as we were not expecting any visitors.

When I opened the door, my neighbors wife was cowering behind her husband. She was deathly afraid of these two monstrous beasts. I couldn’t understand why. They were behind a secure door, and she was protected by her husband, and me. Still, it was as if she had never seen a medium-size dog like a Labrador Retriever, or any other dog before in her life.

It must be terrible to have a fear like this, I thought to myself watching her squirm, and cling to her husband. I didn’t even try the usual, “they’re Labrador retrievers, they won’t hurt anybody, they may let you to death”. Why waste my time? There was no way I was going to cure her of this fear on my front porch.

It did make me wonder though. How do you cure somebody of a fear like this? It scares me having a neighbor, so afraid of dogs. My neighborhood seems to be overrun with rabbits, and squirrels. While I can’t imagine my labradorsNot following my commands, and chasing after them. It is definitely possible, predictable, even probable, and potentially, a huge predicament.

In my nightmare I drive into the garage, from a local trip to the grocery store. Chase my 8 month old 68 pound Labrador retriever, knocks down my not so much heavier wife, carrying a bag of groceries. As she falls to the ground, and the soy milk, and organic food fly out of the paper, not plastic, into the air, And just about the time my wife reaches out to grab the tofu, my 4-year-old 76 pound lab comes chasing after the same rabbit, and completes the perfect storm by knocking her back down.

Meanwhile, across the yard, there’s a very nice lady, with a fear of dogs, that’s also unloading groceries. As she turns with both hands full, carrying three bags of groceries, she deftly swings her hips, and nudges the door closed when her SUV, and is proud of herself for not jumping through the air, as the rabbit crosses her path. In fact she’s proud of the fact that she wasn’t afraid of the rabbit. Just as a smile starts to come across her face she sees two, as far as she’s concerned nuclear missiles headed straight for her.

Of course I’m right behind the nuclear missiles, screaming, “it’s okay, they’re Labrador retrievers, they won’t bite”. just what she wanted to hear, as she tuck and rolls, into her house.

Although this sounds amusing, my neighbor won’t think it’s amusing, in fact she will be terrified, and scarred, and that is something, I do not look forward to.

I am not concerned about them “attacking” her, or anything like that. I don’t want to be responsible for awaking the fear that she feels when she sees my dogs. If you own a Labrador retriever, you know that they have an “overly friendly manner”. Their tails have cleared more tables than most busboys!

So my question is… How do you cure somebody that has a very deep rooted fear like this?

We are going to address this in a series of articles over the next few weeks.

A Labrador rescue is a fantastic companion for an adopting family. They are loving, caring and faithful pets who will show their gratitude in a variety of endearing ways. Unfortunately, many of these Labradors come from abusive homes or traumatic situations and can show the signs of emotional distress. Some of these signs can be behavioral issues that may cause you to think twice about adoption.

One of the main reasons that many people looking to adopt a Labrador rescue don’t follow through is because of the assumption that they will have to work hard to correct behavioral issues that stem from years of abuse or neglect. This simply isn’t the case. Labradors are very obedient and extremely smart dogs who pick up on the internal feelings of their owners. If you are genuinely committed to giving your Labrador rescue a better life, they will sometimes sense it and behave accordingly.

Helping your Labrador rescue with emotional trauma and mental distress is as simple as displaying warmth and compassion toward your dog. Speak softly and reassuringly to your Labrador. Praise your pet often when they are on the right track. Be sure to reward them with treats and extra play time when they do something especially good.

Disciplining a Labrador rescue with emotional issues can be tricky but it’s not impossible. Be calm but firm when you’re giving a verbal command. Never raise your hand or swing your feet if you’ve adopted an abused Labrador. Don’t be surprised if they have an accident when you raise your voice to them. Urination in this manner is a sign of submission and your Labrador is trying to tell you that it knows you are in charge.

Getting your Labrador rescue healthy is a big step on the road to emotional recovery, as well. Feed your dog on a regular schedule and only give them the healthy food they deserve. Be sure that they are up to date on all of their vaccinations and are living parasite-free, internally and on their skin and ears. Follow up with your veterinarian on heartworm medications and parasite preventative.

With some patience, some training and a good caring family, your Labrador rescue will be on the road to mental recovery in no time at all. Showing your pet positive attention and unconditional love will mend it’s broken heart and heal it’s troubled mind.
